You’ve been thinking for a while that it’s time to engage in self-care activities to improve your spiritual, emotional, and physical wellness. You might be thinking that spirituality has got to do with religion, but that’s not the case.
Spiritual self-care involves forming a connection with your soul on a deeper level. It means getting acquainted with your emotions and true needs and evolving as a human being. This is a continuous journey to nourish your well-being, one day at a time.
The Various Dimensions of Spiritual Practices
To me, spiritual practices help me immensely to regulate my emotions, uplift my vibrational energy, and decrease anxiety.
These simple, daily spiritual activities help me grow in self-awareness, which means that I notice my patterns and limiting beliefs about myself and the world with much more clarity.
Years ago, I took a conscious decision that I will not intend to let life stresses take over me. One of the goals I set myself was that I want to stay grounded and resilient, no matter the challenges I face.
Ideally, I wanted to establish a sense of self that is so solid and grounded that my inner state would not be thrown off every time the wind blows. I wanted to be that strong, yet flexible tree, that doesn’t break that easily.
It was crucial for me to discover effective spiritual practices so I could stay present, cool, and collected.
Prior to applying the self-care activities, I used to dwell on worrying about future scenarios and catastrophic thinking, and it made me miserable.
But as I started to take small spiritual growth steps, my fear levels have dropped significantly and I’ve turned myself from being emotionally reactive to mindfully responsive.
I can truly say that I’ve become that strong and balanced person because I have been consistently working on my spiritual wellness, without giving in to lazy excuses. It’s just like any other workout.
You have to find the inner motivation to dedicate yourself to do it and commit to your spiritual development. No one else can do it for you.
How Big Is Your Emotional Container?
I believe that everyone can get to that level of contentment, tune into their center, and flow in the river of life with ease and joy.
Yet, unfortunately, I get to see so many people that freak out so easily, that it doesn’t take much to push them over the edge.
You probably know these people who lash out at the smallest things or getting too nervous about minor things.
For example, those who completely lose it when somebody is cutting them off on the road. If they would have devoted thirty minutes a day to self-care activities, it would take a lot more than that to piss them off.
As the years go by, if we don’t take the necessary actions to empty our stress buckets, there is an accumulative effect.
So what happens is that we get triggered more and more about nonsense and it’s hard for us to deal successfully with life.
But as you start growing spiritually, you will gradually build those must-have stress management muscles to cope with whatever comes your way.

7 Self-Care Tips To Grow Spiritually
I usually prefer to dedicate about an hour to an hour and a half each morning to my spiritual practices before I even start my day.
But you can start small and maybe invest in about 15 minutes and work your way up.
You don’t have to use all of these spiritual methods on the same day. Don’t overload your mind and body with multiple training options. Simply choose the ones that resonate with you and alternate them interchangeably.
#1 Self-Care Activity: Relaxing meditations with soothing background music
Except for all the other spiritual enlightenment tools I share below, this one I actually keep for the nighttime, because it’s more efficient.
Before I fall asleep, I put on a comfortable set of headphones and play calming meditations with empowering affirmations. The form of affirmations I prefer is subliminal whispers.
I can go on and on about the benefits of this powerful method to alter our negative and toxic subconscious programming (like shame, guilt, not feeling good enough, trauma-related issues, and etc.).

#2 Self-Care Activity: Self-Compassion
Self-compassion is a foreign concept to most people, especially for those who were raised with childhood trauma while residing in abusive or unloving homes.
By some warped logic cultivated in your childhood, you believe that the harsher you are on yourself for your failings, the better prepared you are to do better next time around. You probably believe that by constantly putting yourself down, you lift yourself up.
But the reverse is true.
Self-compassion entails kindness towards self, being gentle, understanding, and supportive. This would be the most important element to empower the spiritual self.
Rather than harsh judgment, it flips the script and offers warmth and understanding when things don’t go according to plan.
It means understanding that your value and self-worth are unconditional and a given, despite the prevailing circumstances.
Research has shown that people who have more self-compassion enjoy more social connectedness, higher emotional intelligence, and more happiness.
When I used to judge myself all the time, I’d call myself horrific names.
This spiritual concept entails you stop calling yourself names. Stop telling yourself you’re a loser, that you’re worthless or that you can’t do anything right.
You ARE someone! And it’s time to treat yourself with care and respect.
The fastest way to show your spirit love and give the brain the signal that you’re safe and protected is to hug yourself.
Instead of listing all the negatives, give yourself a hug.
Do it like you mean it.
Studies have shown that this basic, yet effective, self-holding technique helps to anchor and calm the nervous system through body positioning.
#3 Self-Care Activity: Observing your thoughts when triggered
This exercise can be helpful for when you find yourself triggered. When you have the time, after, or even during the event that’s causing sadness, anxiety, hurt, or anger, sit and observe your thoughts and feelings.
Don’t try to change them or anything. Just see what the current situation that caused the pain is telling you about your beliefs and the ideas you carry.
Instead of pushing against your daily challenging triggers, you will do much better if you use them to grow spiritually: use them for self-discovery, by bringing the focus back to yourself.
The emotional triggers we experience reflect something in us that is not solved yet.
Most people do the opposite of self-care and self-reflecting: they react! They blame! Take it personally, and miss the opportunity for spiritual expansion.
#4 Self-Care Activity: Boost your vibration
You might not be aware of that, but as a matter of fact, you are a vibrational being. Your spirit is an extension of the source.
Your body, the rocks outside, your dog, even your iPhone are all made up of vibrating molecules. The vibration you offer to the Universe on a consistent basis gets right back to you as physical manifestations.
The law of attraction connects the frequency you emit regularly with energies that are the same.
That’s why the rich get richer and the poor get poorer.
Therefore, you want to make sure that you elevate your frequency to higher levels until it becomes your new default.
One of the ways to do it is laughter. Instead of watching horror movies that deplete you of happiness and relief, choose to invest in self-care alternatives like watching funny pet videos on YouTube, or any other show that makes you laugh.
Laughter yoga is another way to boost your spirituality.
#5 Self-Care Activity: Trauma Releasing Exercises
Trauma releasing exercises (TRE) are not as popular as they should be, but they remain one of the best self-care things you can do to enhance spirituality.

The fact is that the trauma and stress we experience on a daily basis don’t affect only our minds. They get imprinted in other parts of our body as well.
How many times have you experienced pain in your back, chest, head, or shoulders whenever you become stressed?
It’s because of all that trauma stored up in those areas.
But here’s the thing: your body can let go of that stored up tension so you don’t have to experience that discomfort again.
David Bercelli stumbled on this natural shaking by studying animals that live in life-threatening situations and he realized that we humans are wired the same way too. Animals and us people are designed to shake off tension and accumulated trauma.
I started using these self-care exercises a few years ago; and my first experiences were intense, to say the least.
At first, I shook a little. It felt weird to see my limbs moving freely on their own uncontrollably. But after I relaxed into it, the real trauma release began; my whole body shook.
My shoulders, hips, neck, head—everywhere shook like crazy. Then, when I was done, I felt a MASSIVE relief and spiritual a-ha moments that are hard to put in words.

Both technologies have been scientifically proven to be highly effective to help with worries, depression, strengthen the immune system, open the chakra centers, improve sleep and induce deep tranquility, overcoming addictions, and more.

#7 Self-Care Activity: Yoga
One of the best ways to take care of yourself spiritually is to integrate yoga into your schedule.
The combination of body movement and breathing is miraculous.
Yoga has long been considered a spiritual practice. The stretches and poses reduce Cortisol in the body and fill you up with the good hormone – serotonin.
The deep breaths, the encouraging words from the instructor, the slow and steady movements for each pose, all these things help you to step into your power.
It also helps you to be in the moment, forget about everything, and enrich your spirit self with love and light.
These days I just practice yoga at home with my partner, but before corona shut down the world, the group positive dynamic was my favorite spiritual resource.
