Let’s put this on the table: people pleasing doesn’t feel good. As a matter of fact- it feels terrible.

Even though you may tell yourself that you’re a good person by pushing your needs aside, in the end, you relinquish the person who matters most – yourself.

The constant unexplained urge to put others first leaves you depleted and depressed.

It’s a natural instinct to take care of yourself first. It’s not selfish; it’s your birthright.

By ignoring, neglecting, and disrespecting your needs, you are denying your own nature.

Pleasing others at your own expense for no reason is a sacrifice of your being.

Yeah, I get it. You’re scared that if you take care of yourself first, you’ll upset people, and they’ll stop liking you. The very thought of them pulling their love away triggers the unwanted fear of all – abandonment.

So out of sheer desperation to ensure your survival, you protect yourself by pleasing them so you won’t end up alone.

But here’s the thing you must realize if you want to liberate yourself from this toxic programming:

YOU CAN SURVIVE IF YOU STAY TRUE TO YOURSELF.

Actually, that’s the only way you can survive and thrive.

Because… if you’re giving up on the most important person –is that really surviving? What kind of life is this when you treat yourself like you’re not important?

Learning to take care of your needs is a mindful practice, and it takes time. Think of all the time it took you to develop the unconscious action of pleasing others.

It may be challenging to put yourself first, as you’ll be going against your inherent programming.

But each day – through small steps, you will be able to change your default programming.

When you learn to honor your needs, make your own choices for your best interest, and set high standards for the people you hang out with, you will establish a brand new healthy paradigm worth every effort you put into it.
